We know that supporting a diverse and culturally competent workforce is the best way to promote a positive work environment for our employees and the only way to effectively serve our diverse community. Our commitment to exceptional public service relies on an inclusive culture with a focus on continuous growth and improvement.

Madison County provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetics.

Madison County expressly prohibits any form of workplace harassment based on race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, genetic information, disability, or veteran status.

Improper interference with the ability of Madison County employees to perform their job duties may result in discipline up to and including termination of employment.

Madison County is required to participate in the federal government's E-Verify program. With E-Verify, we are able to confirm the employment authorization of all newly hired employees and most existing employees through an electronic database maintained by the Social Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security.

With respect to new hires, the E-Verify process is completed in conjunction with a new hire's completion of the Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification upon commencement of employment. E-Verify is not used as a tool to pre-screen candidates.

Madison County is committed to protecting the safety, health and wellbeing of all employees and other individuals in our workplace. We recognize that alcohol abuse and drug use pose a significant threat to our goals. We have established a drug-free workplace program that balances our respect for individuals with the need to maintain an alcohol and drug-free environment.

It is the policy of Madison County that all new staff employees have certain credentials and criminal and other background information verified as a condition of employment.
